Combating Sex Trafficking
Issue Description:
Currently there is a large and constant sex trade along Sonoma Blvd., centered primarily between Alabama and Florida Streets. Sex workers, pimps, and johns create an unhealthy and unsafe enviroment for residents and themselves.
What work has the Coalition done on the issue?
Met with the city manager, chief of police, city staff, Charles Palmares (our City Council Member), and representatives of Lori D. Wilson's (our CA Assembly Member for District 11) office to discuss the issue and possible solutions. This is now a standing quarterly meeting.
Filled multiple FBI Sex Trafficking Tip Forms admisistered by National Human Trafficking Hotline.
Met with sex trafficking specialist, walked the active area, and brainstormed next steps.
Contacted Erin Hannigan, County Supervisor for District 1 (our district), asking for support at the county level.
Wrote letters of concern to the California Highway Patrol asking for increased patroling along Hwy 29/Sonoma Blvd.
